1. Obtain a Student Database File from your SIS system and/or your Special Ed MIS System

Most schools have electronic student attendance software. These have internal query programs that allow you to download specific student information into an Excel spreadsheet, or a report that can be saved as an Excel worksheet.

The file you create will need separate columns for:

  • student's legal last name
  • first name
  • date of birth
  • gender
  • school name

If you do not know how to obtain this information ask your SIS administrator. When you request assistance it will be helpful to share the instructions "Convert Your Database".

If your school keeps student information in a non-electronic manner, you can type the required student information into an Excel worksheet. Also students who are not "enrolled
